Coach Mark
Strength & Conditioning Coach
Coach Mark Cristiani serves as Sarasota Volleyball Club's Strength & Conditioning Coach, bringing over 30 years of coaching experience and a background built at the intersection of elite-level athletics, military service, and high school strength programs. A Venice High School graduate, Mark went on to Eastern Kentucky University, where he was a dominant 275-pound defensive tackle and earned First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in 2005.
Before taking the helm at Riverview High School, Mark served as the strength coach, defensive line coach, and head boys weightlifting coach at Venice High School — building a reputation for intense, highly disciplined programs rooted in his military background as a U.S. Army Ranger. He served three combat tours with the U.S. Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, completing over 100 special operations missions. That military-grade discipline directly shapes his approach to physical preparation, mental toughness, and tactical strength and conditioning.
Mark holds the prestigious Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential and is a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. At SVC, that expertise shows up in every session. His programming focuses on the movement patterns that matter most for volleyball — explosive lower-body power for approach jumps and blocks, rotational core strength for hitting and serving, shoulder health for repeated overhead loading, and the change-of-direction agility that separates good defenders from great ones. Workouts are age-appropriate and progressive: younger AAU players build a foundation of body control, while Travel athletes layer on the heavier, more advanced work that carries into college play.
Beyond SVC, Mark is the head football coach at Riverview High School, where he was chosen from a field of nearly 50 candidates after eight years on the Rams' staff as strength and defensive line coach. Known around campus as "Coach C," he has quickly transformed the Riverview program, leading the Rams to a 6-1 start in 2025 and earning a Tampa Bay Buccaneers High School Coach of the Week nomination for his work rebuilding the roster's culture, chemistry, and standards. He was also named Sarasota Herald Tribune Coach of the Year last year. His players describe his approach simply: "nobody is above the law" — every athlete is held to the same standard, every day.
Off the court, Mark is a proud husband to Coach Nickie Cristiani and a devoted dad. Together, the Cristiani family lives and breathes Sarasota volleyball, and Mark brings that same all-in energy to every SVC athlete he trains.
